Our resident rapping reverend may be a Jane of all trades, but it is truly evident that her passion lies in her purpose. Meet Rev. Stefanie Ward, our Operations and Grants Manager.

What inspired you to join UCM?:

It was a new opportunity that was presented to me during a transitionary period in my life.

What previous experience prepared you for this role?:

Studying business in college, being the secretary at my church, managing my own business, and assisting others with creating and running businesses.

Are there any personal experiences that have shaped your dedication to this cause?:

Not one specific experience, but my entire life has shaped my dedication to this cause. The older I get, the more I see, and the more I am aware of certain circumstances and struggles. I just want to be on the side that fights for liberation versus the side that sees it and does nothing.

Are there any certifications, degrees, or specialized training you’d like to highlight?:

I pursued a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Kettering University in Flint, MI. I received certification in Mental Health Awareness Counseling. I’m a certified Notary Public. I am an ordained minister (received my ordination in March 2019).

Do you have any personal passions or causes you support that align with your work here?:

One personal passion of mine in Ministry, not just religion. My definition of Ministry is the complete well-being of a person and the journey it takes to get there. Another personal passion and cause I support is caring for the unhoused community. There are many reasons that contribute to a life without shelter, but we must still remember that these are people who need care.

Can you share a fun fact or surprising detail about yourself?:

I can rap. I’ve written a few songs that have been recorded and others are still in a notebook in my bedroom. I’m also an author, with one self-published title and one contribution to an anthology.

Do you have a favorite quote, motto, or saying that reflects your outlook or approach to life?:

“Never let them put you on a pedestal.” Bishop Emmanuel Eadie, Sr.

Is there anything else you’d like people to know about you or your work?:

I’m blessed for the opportunity to do this work on a daily basis.
